Ouzoud Waterfalls Private Day Tour – 1 day
The indigenous Barbary Monkeys can sometimes be seen in the trees and may come down near the river to be fed by tourists. This region is verdant and full of fruit trees and olives. Picturesque restaurants serving delicious typical local dishes hug the sides of the river and rustic walkways bring you down into the woodlands and hidden caves.
Depending on the time of year people often swim here and enjoy paddling around on the rafts, so do bring your towel and swimwear.
It really is a beautiful region of Morocco and a worthwhile day trip from Marrakech.
Private Day Tour to Ouarzazate and Ait Benhaddou from Marrakech 4x4
Private excursion to the Atlas Mountains, Ait Benhaddou UNESCO heritage site and Ouarzazate from Marrakech.
We will depart early in the morning at 07.30 from Marrakech for Ouarzazate: the Hollywood capital. We travel on the High Atlas Mountain road which takes us over the highest drivable pass in North Africa: Tizi-n-Tichka, at 2260 metres altitude.
Before reaching Ouarzazate we will take a detour from the main route down a rough track, you will see how diverse the landscape is as we change the panorama from mountains to open plains and desertified vistas. This route will bring you to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ksar Ait Benhaddou. This fortified village is perhaps best known for its use as a film set for many well-known blockbusters over the last 55 years: Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia and the Prince of Persia, the Mummy and the Kingdom of Heaven being some of the most notable.
The narrow streets wind up to the top of this fortification where 8 or 9 Berber families still live. From the top you can see for miles around on all sides and the views down to the turreted adobe Kasbahs below are quite spectacular.
Our next visit is to the Taourirt and Tifoultoute kasbahs: residences of the Old Glaoui Governor of Marrakech.
After lunch we will take the return drive back to Marrakech reaching the Medina around 18.30.
Essaouira Medina Private Day Tour
Day trip to the Atlantic Ocean, Essaouira, Argan Trees and Mogador Medina from Marrakech.
We depart early from the red city of Marrakech to discover the charming blue and white coastal medina of Essaouira which is almost three hours drive away. Essaouira or the old Mogador is a city that bears the marks of the times when Spain, Portugal and England fought to control the Atlantic coasts. It has a picturesque harbour with outstanding examples of Moorish and Portuguese architecture, with Spanish cannons standing proud along the walls.
The fishing port is often full of brightly painted blue boats and the fishermen can be seen selling their wonderful array of exotic fish and seafood as the seagulls dive for tasty morsels. Essaouira is known for its medina, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It is also known for the artwork and many gifted artisans who work there; beautiful glossy carved wooden products are made from Thuya, a rare wood found in the region, metalwork and ceramics, raffia and textiles are among the treasures to be found in the narrow medina streets. Essaouira is perhaps best known for its Gnawa music, the legendary annual world music festival and its history that talks of the black slaves who brought the spiritual music to its shores. Make sure you sample the excellent seafood in the many restaurants while you are there.
A visit to this region is not complete without a visit to one of the Argan Oil co-operatives. This part of the country is where the Argan trees grow and in these work places women process the nuts by hand into the world famous health giving oils and other products used in cosmetics and for cooking. You will be able to visit their shop too and purchase their handmade products if you wish.
We return to Marrakech in the afternoon.
Ourika Valley Private Day Tour 4x4
This day trip takes you from the bustling medina of Marrakech and the dusty plains of Al Haouz to the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains and some of its picturesque hidden valleys. Typical adobe Berber villages nestle on the mountainsides and along the rivers, small terraces and fields are cared for to produce all the fruits and vegetables, animals are tended to and age old traditions are passed down through generations.
Tahannout is a market town on the way to the mountains; Asni is an important meeting point and place where the mountain villagers go to do their shopping in the big Saturday souk. Ourika is famous because of its pottery and its crystalline minerals. This area has many artisans producing crafts for the souks. Further up the valley as it winds its way to the village of Setti Fatma, road side and riverside restaurants line the way with delicious tagines cooking on smouldering charcoal fires waiting to be chosen for lunch.
We take you to visit a Berber house where you can have tea, and perhaps visit the old mill where they still use traditional methods. If time allows and you have brought suitable footwear it is possible to hire a local guide to take you up the waterfalls at Setti Fatma. Seven falls bring you up into the lush vegetation and give you fantastic panoramic views of the landscape.
The Ourika Valley tour is one of the most popular for very good reason; it really is a fantastic day trip from Marrakech.
