Desert tour from Fes to Marrakech
Desert Tours from Fez to Marrakech 4 Days / 3 Nights
Departure from Fes | Duration 3 days
On this route of three days, we visit the desert and the city of Fez
Day 1: Fes – Azrou – Ifrane – Ziz Gorge – Tafilalet – Erfoud – Merzouga
We will depart from Fes after breakfast. We’ll cross part of the Middle Atlas through the town of Ifrane, also called the Switzerland of Africa because of the combination of its Western alpine architecture and cedar forests. We will stop to see the indigenous Barbary monkeys that inhabit the area of Azrou; you can feed them and take photos if you wish.
We continue southwards to the city of Midelt, this is a big apple producing region. From there we drive onwards until we arrive at the Palm Grove of Tafilalet and further south to reach the famous golden dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga at about 4 pm in the afternoon. Then, riding camels, your guide will lead you to the dunes to see the sunset and on to your camp where you will sleep in a wild oasis located two hours away in the desert.
Enjoy an amazing night under the stars in a Berber Camp with great local food and entertainment.
Day 2: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi Desert – Ouzina Desert
In the morning you can get up early, take a walk over the sand dunes and watch the sunrise from just behind the Algerian border, which is about 50 km from Merzouga. You then ride the camel back to the hotel where you can take a shower and have breakfast.
After a rest we will depart towards Rissani town: the economic capital of southern Morocco and the country’s first imperial city, visit the souk under the red arches and its numerous ksours. Then we will leave the tarred road and drive along the track of the Paris-Dakar Rally until we can see the Ouzina palms where we’ll drink Berber tea with a family.
We’ll spend the night in a desert Kasbah hotel.
Day 3: Ouzina Desert – Ouzina – Ramlia – Oasis Mharech – Todra Gorge
After breakfast our adventure continues as we cross a Reg (desert of stones), which is a real lunar landscape with vast expanses of dark stones until our view is lost on the horizon. We’ll visit several Berber villages where real nomads live in tents, verdant oases and we will also pass by Lake Maider. Then, taking the road to Alnif via Tizi n´Tifrkhinn, we will arrive at the Todra Gorge to spend the night in a Riad.
Day 4: Todra Gorge – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Ksar Aït Benhaddou – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
After breakfast, we leave the Todra Gorge and travel westwards to the Dades Valley and to the Kasbah of Ait Youb where we will take a track that allows you to admire the ksours and Kasbahs while you journey to the Valley of the Roses.
Lunch time and then we will continue to the Skoura palm grove, then to Ouarzazate. Dinner and relaxation time will be in a Kasbah hotel.
