Sahara Desert Excursion from Marrakech 4 Days / 3 Nights
Departure from Marrakech | 4 days
Starting from Marrakech we go into the great southern desert, following the route of the kasbahs.
Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi n´Tichka – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
We will pick up you from your accommodation or arrival location in Marrakech and then we will start our tour to the Dades Gorges. We will be crossing the High Atlas Mountains as we leave the plains of Marrakech below and over the Tizi-n-Tichka High Atlas Mountain pass. With amazing panoramic views across the valleys and landscapes dotted with adobe Berber villages and tiny fields of produce there is plenty to see on the way. We will take a lunch stop on our way before reaching Ouarzazate and then we continue to the Dades Valley, where we will spend the night in a riad/hotel in the Dades Gorge.
Day 2: Dades Gorge – Tinghir – Todra Gorge – Tinjdad – Erfoud – Merzouga
After the breakfast, we will be travelling from the Dades gorges to reach Erg Chebbi, Merzouga in the Sahara Desert. Many Berber villages are scattered along the way, we’ll pass through Tinjdad, Jorf and Erfoud where we’ll see the beginning of the Saharan oasis of Tafilalet, and then we continue to Merzouga. A
fter a short time to relax and drink tea in Merzouga, we meet the camels who are waiting to take us on an adventure in the sand dunes. We will spend the night in a camp of Nomad Berber tents with drumming music in the middle of the Sahara. This is a great opportunity to take lovely pictures: when we arrive at the camp we will go to a high dune to see the sunset. You can enjoy local hospitality, food and culture and all under the canopy of millions of stars.
Day 3: Camel trekking back to Merzouga – Berber Villages – Ouarzazate
After seeing the sunrise in the desert we ride the camels back to Merzouga where the breakfast will be waiting and where you can take a shower in the Hotel. We then start our journey to Ouarzazate passing through the Berber towns and villages of the Atlas Mountains: Tinjdad, Tinghir, Todra Gorges, Boumalne Dades and Kelaat M´gouna, we arrive in Ouarzazate where we spend the night with dinner and breakfast.
Day 4: Ouarzazate – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
Leaving Ouarzazate in the morning, we will visit UNESCO heritage site of Ait Benhaddou: one of the most impressive Kasbahs and well-preserved fortresses in all of Morocco. Many movies were filmed here such as The Gladiator, The Mummy, Prince of Persia and dozens more.
Leaving Ait Benhaddou behind, we start travelling towards the majestic Atlas Mountains and we cross the High Atlas Mountains via the highest road pass in Morocco: Tizi n´Tichka, which is 2260m above sea level and offers impressive views of valleys, mountains and many Berber villages nearby.
