Marrakech, the great Imperial City of Morocco is the ideal starting point for some of the most interesting excursions to the Moroccan Desert.


Day 1: Marrakech

Arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport. You will be welcomed by our staff and transferred to your accommodation. After some welcome tea and registration you will have a sight-seeing tour of the city if you have an early arrival. Marrakech has many amazing monuments, museums and places of interest to visit, the highlights are: the Saadian Tombs, palaces of Bahia and Badi, the souks and the Jemaa el Fna square. Accommodation with breakfast.

Day 2: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ksar Ait Benhaddou – Draa Valley – Zagora

We depart from Marrakech for Ouarzazate travelling through the High Atlas Mountains. The first place we will be stopping to visit is the famous Kasbah of Telouet, once the home of the governor of Marrakech followed by the even more famous Ait Benhaddou: a fortified kasbah declared a UNESCO heritage site in 1987. Because of its outstanding scenic setting it is used as a set location for blockbuster movies, some you may know that were filmed there are: Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, the Mummy, Prince of Persia and Kingdom of Heaven. We will continue on to Ouarzazate where we will be visiting the Kasbah Taourirt, and its theatre and museum on our way. Our journey continues through the Draa Valley (one of the most beautiful valleys in the country) to reach our destination. The first night will be spent at a charming Riad in Zagora.

Day 3: Zagora – Ouzina

After breakfast we will begin the second day of the trip. Today will be spectacular adventure. On our way we will discover the splendour of the palm groves in the Draa Valley. Also, our journey will take us on part of the Paris-Dakar Rally routes used in the Moroccan section of the prestigious race. We will cross the Draa Valley, the Oum Geran Plateau, travel through Berber villages seemingly lost in the middle of nowhere and cross the black desert ergs. We will have a lunch break midway. Accommodation for your second night will be in Hotel Kasbah Ouzina.

Day 4: Explore the Desert

We will have a quiet day to admire and walk through the pure sand dunes in Ouzina. You can also go see the people of Ouzina Village, enjoy some tea with a Berber family, visit nomads… and in the evening take an excursion by camel to watch the sunset from a huge dune. We will spend the night in the desert in a Touareg haimas camp with dinner, a bonfire and percussion music.

Day 5: Ouzina – Rissani – Merzouga – Erfoud – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

We will be up before dawn to watch the sunrise over the dunes and have breakfast before departing to Merzouga through the famous Erg Chebbi, and its famous river of sand. Later on, we will visit the village of Khamlia and Rissani market, the best nomad market in the region. We will enjoy the souk with all the colours and aromas of an authentic nomadic market. We will continue towards Todra Gorge with its 300 metre high walled canyon where we stop for you to take a walk and absorb the ambience of this impressive location. We continue to the Dades Valley for your nights’ accommodation which will be in a Riad with dinner and breakfast included.

Day 6: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Valley of Roses – Marrakech

In the morning we will leave for our drive to Marrakech, you will see some of Morocco´s most beautiful landscapes: the Valley of Roses and the Dades Valley and you will also see Kasbah Amridil and many others before we reach the High Atlas Mountains. Crossing this majestic range takes us over the highest drivable pass at Tizi n’Tichka at an altitude of 2260 metres and from there we descend to the red plains and the city of Marrakech below. You will be transferred to your hotel for the evening with breakfast.

Day 7: Marrakech – Airport

You will free time to explore and do some shopping until it is time to transfer you to the airport, end of the trip. Marrakech, the great Imperial City of Morocco is the ideal starting point for some of the most interesting excursions to the Moroccan Desert.
